HomePod Is Not Created As Competitor to Google Home & Alexa

HomePod will be available for sale in two days but has already been reviewed by a few reviewers. While many are optimistic about the speaker, some do not classify it as “intelligent”, but rather put it into the section of ordinary speakers with some additional functions. Is it really so, Apple?

Those who have already had the opportunity to test HomePod, praise its musical capabilities. Apparently, this is one of the best gadgets that can be put in the living room. However, there is one common topic in reviews, HomePod does not intend to make a direct fight with Google Home or Amazon Echo. It can be said that Apple’s equipment is not even capable of this because Siri clearly gives way to the functionality of other voice assistants.

For this reason, Apple does not present the HomePod loudspeaker as an embodied revolution in the smart-home market. It’s just an intelligent speaker, to whom we command what song to play. As befits the Cupertino giant, music will only flow from Apple Music. It is not possible to set Spotify as the default player. You can not dictate new tasks or events to the speaker that should be recorded in our calendar, let alone recognize different voices of the household members. There is no way you can connect a device to it via an aux cable or use it as a Bluetooth speaker. Of course, you cannot pair it with an Android phone.

So, What is HomePod For?

To listen to music from Apple Music. He can also do most of the things that Siri does for us from the iPhone. Is that too little? Certainly not enough to compete with Google Home or Amazon Echo. With the fact that Apple does not have to do it. The company seems to be completely detached from the logic of Google Assistant and Alexa. The Cupertino giant is not planning to equip any internet-connected device in his world with his assistant, which is clearly the aspiration of Google. Apple has created a simple, well-sounding salon speaker with voice support.

Apparently, HomePod becomes just an accessory to the Apple Music. It’s supposed to keep people in it, and apparently, there is no more ambitious goal like competing with Google Home and Amazon Echo in the Smart-Speaker market.

Siri cannot compete with the intelligent voice assistants of the competition, and Apple is aware of that. The company would not be able to create an assistant on this device that would be better than the competition’s solutions, so it just did not do it. As a result, the day after tomorrow, HomePod will appear in stores as the music accessory from Apple with the built-in Siri.

Apple will, however, have to rethink his strategy towards artificial intelligence and voice assistants. Soon, they can become very popular, not only in intelligent speakers but also in various other devices. If Apple does not compete quickly in this area, it can lose a lot. Especially if smartphones (especially iPhones) start to slowly be pushed from their central position in the business of electronic devices.
