Samsung’s flagships are one of the most-awaited high-end devices each year. And as every year, the manufacturer failed to keep the smartphones in complete secrecy until the official launch. This does not mean, however, that the Koreans did not surprise us with anything special. What new features do the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ offer? Find out below. Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+ Display
The Galaxy S9 features a 5.8-inch display, while the Galaxy S9 + has a 6.2-inch screen. In both cases, it is a bilaterally curved Super AMOLED panel with 18.5: 9 aspect ratio and WQHD+ resolution, i.e 2960 × 1440 pixels, which translates to 568 and 531 PPI, respectively. It is worth adding that the default resolution is Full HD+ (2220 × 1080 pixels), but the user can increase it in the appropriate tab in Settings.
The heart of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + is an octa-core, 64-bit processor, produced in a 10-nm technological process of the second generation. The copies available in the US will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (4x 2.7 GHz + 4x 1.7 GHz) with Adreno 630 graphics. The rest of the world will get Exynos 9810 (4x 2.8 GHz + 4x 1.7 GHz) with Mali-G72 MP18 graphics.
RAM & Storage
Samsung Galaxy S9 has 4 GB RAM and Galaxy S9 + 6 GB RAM. The basic model will have 64 GB of built-in memory, however, on selected markets, customers will also buy models with 128 GB and 256 GB of space for user files. On each smartphone, there will be a microSD card slot with a maximum capacity of 400 GB.
Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+ Camera
The cameras will be the strongest side of this year’s Samsung flagships. Galaxy S9 is equipped with a single main camera with a resolution of 12 MP sensor with super fast Dual Pixel autofocus, variable aperture (f/1.5 or f/2.4) and OIS (optical image stabilization). The Galaxy S9 + has a dual main camera on the back. One with a wide-angle 12-megapixel sensor and variable diaphragm (f/1.5 or f/2.4). The second one is a telephoto lens with a resolution of 12 MP and aperture f/2.4. It is worth adding that both cameras are also equipped with OIS (optical image stabilization) . On the front, there is a single 8 MPcamera with autofocus and f/1.7 aperture.
As for the skills used in this year’s flagship cameras, thanks to the allocation of the Superfast Dual Pixel sensor, dedicated computing power and memory, the camera can combine up to 12 frames in one photo, which is to ensure the highest possible quality. In addition, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + offer video recording in super slow-mo mode at 960 frames per second and motion detection in the frame, thanks to which the smartphone will automatically start recording the video at the right moment.
Another new skill in Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + is the creation of Emoji AR. The user just has to direct the camera to his face, and the appropriate algorithms, with the support of machine learning mechanisms, reproduce it on the smartphone. Of course, it will move and sound the same as its original. If someone wants, they can share their AR emoji on most messaging platforms, as they are saved in a GIF format.
It is worth mentioning Bixby assistant which uses deep machine learning algorithms to provide helpful information about the user’s environment. Objects are detected and recognized in real-time so that the user can receive comprehensive information about the things that are visible in the picture. There is also the option of translating text from a foreign language in real time.
An important novelty and a long due feature in the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + is stereo speakers, tuned by AKG. The sound quality of the audio reproduced is additionally enhanced by the Dolby Atmos technology, which gives the sound effect in 360 degrees. In addition, this year’s flagship Samsung are the first smartphones in its portfolio, supporting the new application SmartThings, which is a tool for managing the interconnected network of devices, not only from Samsung but others too.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Security
When it comes to biometric security, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + offer a fingerprint reader, IRIS scanner, and facial recognition system. The user can also choose the intelligent scan function, combining the last two of the above-mentioned methods, which will additionally increase security.
Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + runs Android 8.0 Oreo by default and are powered by a non-removable battery with respectively 3000 and 3500 mAh capacity, naturally with support for fast technology (compatibility with Quick Charge 2.0) and wireless charging. The smartphone housing is dustproof and waterproof (IP68).
