Xiaomi Black Shark Unveiled: a Gaming Smartphone With Liquid Cooling
Yes, it is real now. Xiaomi presented its first smartphone for gamers. Will it be the last one? we will have to see. Let’s see what the Chinese smartphone giant has packed inside the housing of the six-inch gaming smartphone.
Black Shark Gaming Phone, was presented at today’s Xiaomi conference in China. As promised, it is a smartphone with top specifications including an advanced cooling system, an attached pad and a gaming brand logo shining on the back of the case.
The body of the device seems to be very sturdy, it looks like those rugged Galaxy Active devices. The housing is 161.6 mm long, 75.4 mm wide and 9.25 mm thick. Holding the Black Shark in hand, its weight can be felt i.e 190 g. The brand logo shines on the back, which undoubtedly adds to the smartphone the charm of a typical gaming device. Interestingly there is no Mi logo.
The structure of the antenna is unique. It has the shape of the letter “X”. This eliminates problems with the reception of the signal in a situation when the user’s hands will cover the top and bottom of the smartphone, after turning it into a horizontal position to play a game.
The pad easily attaches to the side of the smartphone. It weighs an additional 40 grams. Interestingly, it’s just a one-sided overlay with one analog, so it’s not like the Nintendo Switch controller. It is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 interface and is compatible with all devices with Android 4.4 and newer. The gamepad has a 150 mAh battery and will operate up to 30 hours on a single charge at least it is what they claim.
Let’s Dive Into the Specifications Of Xiaomi Black Shark
The Xiaomi Black Shark features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, a 97-percent DCI-P3 color range and 550-nitrous brightness. From the technical side of the panel, we have no reason to complain.
Under the hood, there is the fastest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (2.8 GHz) processor with Adreno 630 graphics. It should be able to handle even the most advanced titles from the Google Play store library. It has 6 GB RAM LPDDR4x and 64 GB internal memory (UFS 2.1). The sale will also have a version with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory.
The cooling system can reduce the temperature of the processor by up to 8 degrees during demanding games sessions. In order to improve the experience and more efficient image processing, a special Pixelworks layout is used that allows intelligent movement compensation (whatever that means).
Black Shark will also be able to take decent pictures. It has been equipped with a dual main camera. One f/1.75 lens is connected to a 12 Mpix matrix with a pixel size of 1.25 μm, while the second camera with a f/2.2 aperture has a 20-megapixel sensor with 1.0 μm pixel.
There are also a few things unheard of in other smartphones, for example, a special SHARK One-touch button that acts as a quiet mode switch or performs a different user-defined action. The fingerprint reader located on the front of the screen can also be assigned additional tasks, useful during the game. There is a Hi-Fi audio system which should provide decent sound.
Black Shark runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. This system manages a 4000 mAh battery with the option of quick charging.
Xiaomi Black Shark prices
Gaming Xiaomi smartphone comes in two variants:
- 6 GB / 64 GB for 2999 yuan (~ $476), That’s a steal right?

In addition, to use the rain, you also need to buy it. Its price is 179 yuan (~ $29). It’s a shame, to tell the truth, I was hoping that the pad will be in the sales set.
