Android Wear 2.8 is coming and this new version contains an AMOLED theme with a dark background and clearer notifications. The update is distributed via the Android Wear app.
Android Wear 2.8
The Android Wear team from Google has announced through the Android Wear Community that Android Wear 2.8 is coming. This new version is part of the Android Wear app that can be updated in the coming days via the Play Store.
New in this version is an improved display of the notifications on your smartwatch. The team calls it ‘improved notification glanceability’ and that is a description that we can not do very much with. Unfortunately, we can not test it yet as we have not yet received the update on the editorial staff and are still hanging on version 2.7. We, therefore, assume that the notifications are easier to read, perhaps because the layout has changed. There would then be more information to read and that is always an improvement on small smartwatch screens.
Furthermore, according to the changelog, the background has been made darker, so that its readability is improved. This could improve the battery life of smartwatches with an OLED screen, but we can not say that with certainty yet.
It is a godsend that this update is now being distributed to smartwatches via the Android Wear app. So we do not have to wait until the manufacturer of the watch spreads the OTA update. This has been possible since the arrival of Android Wear 2.0. This version makes it possible to bring new functions to users via the corresponding app, in order to circumvent the delaying OTAs.
