Anyone who has looked at the Death Stranding product page on Metacritic during the past few weeks must be puzzled by the players’ ratings. Not only did an unusually large number of users rated the game, but they also give it a meager score of 5.1.
Now Metacritic has confirmed that they have removed thousands of these reviews after being marked as “suspicious activity.” As a result, the user score rose overnight from 5.1 to 7.4.
Death Stranding More Popular Than Imagined
Hardly any game has garnered as much polarized opinion this year as Kojima Productions action-adventure Death Stranding. The game has received widely differing views from the players due to the unique nature of the gameplay. While some appreciate the decelerated progression along with hours of cutscenes, others are not impressed.
Death Stranding: Metacritic User’s Reviews Plagued By Fake Reviews
Distorted Reality: A user score of 5.1 showed that the game has failed to impress a vast number of players. Unfortunately, there has been a recurrent problem of Review Bombing on the site over the past few months. A large number of people choose specific games and rate them poorly with multi-accounts. This practice is rather pathetic and can do considerable damage to the developer. After all, many players base their decision on whether to buy a game or not based on Metacritic user reviews.
For this reason, it is a matter of great concern for Metacritic to remove these fake reviews from the site. Here is the statement of the page:
““Metacritic takes issues of potential score manipulation seriously and has a number of policies in place to maintain score integrity. Moderators regularly review the site and remove any entries that do not fall within our guidelines in addition to a moderation queue where Metacritic users can flag unusual behavior. Moderators then review and remove any entries that violate our terms of service,”.”
There is also the possibility for the users themselves to report suspicious content in addition to moderators who closely monitor the user reviews. After consideration, Metacritic removes all reviews from the website that violate their rules.
