After launching the Pixelbook in 2017 and the Pixel Slate in 2018, Google now seems to have another new product in the making.
Google has teased that it is working on a new product that would fall in the same category as the Pixelbook and Pixel Slate.
Pixelbook and Pixel Slate
During Cloud Next 2019, Google took a moment to look back at the last few Pixel laptops and tablets. The company said that with the Pixelbook it first focused on ‘busy managers and information workers’, and that with the Pixel Slate it then focused more on ‘customer-focused teams’, such as sales people on the road and other traveling workers.
New Google Laptop/Tablet
Now Google claims to have a new goal, as 9to5Google has noted. Google says that it will now make even greater efforts to help the modern workforce to be ‘productive on the road’.
Steve Jacobs, main product manager of the Pixelbook Group at Google, said a bit more about this topic and said:
There are a few unique things that we can do differently than with the Pixelbook and the Pixel Slate that will really help [users] to work in this modern cloud era.
No further details have been given, but it seems very plausible that a mobile, cloud-oriented device is on the way. However, it is unclear what exactly it will be and when we will find out more about it.
Google has said that it will not come with concrete announcements this week, but we will know more about it later. We have previously seen that Google came up with new Pixel laptop/tablet announcements in October, so it is possible that the, until now mysterious, new Pixel product will be introduced in October.
Last year’s Pixel Slate was the target of a good deal of criticism in both software and hardware areas. Some people even speculated that Google might not launch another Pixel laptop or tablet. However, from the statements of Google, it seems that another Pixel laptop or tablet is waiting for us, so it will be interesting to see what kind of product the Pixel Slate will follow up.
Rumors have suggested that Google could work on a Chromebook with a code name “Atlas” which would contain a 4K screen, so if you’re a fan of the Pixelbook, it’s good to keep an eye on the news.
