The Huawei Mate X has been officially announced. In this article we have put all details about Huawei’s folding phone in front of you.
Huawei shipped 206 million smartphones in 2018 and showed growth in sales of tablets, laptops, wearables, and IoT products. For example, the Chinese manufacturer has sold 4 times more laptops than in 2017. Huawei, like other manufacturers, wants a Connected Future with IoT at home and in the office. That includes Huawei’s products such as the new Huawei Matebook X Pro and of course the foldable phone from Huawei, the Mate X.
Huawei Mate X
The Huawei Mate X has been officially launched. The screen of this foldable phone is similar to that of Royole, the company that came with the world’s first folding smartphone. The foldable screen of the Mate X has a Falcon Wing Design and covers both the front and the back of the whole. There is more screen area available, namely a 6.6 inch and a 6.38 inch screen divides the front and back.
If you unfold the Mate X, you get an 8 inch screen. Screen edges are also minimal and there is no notch available. In the ‘sidebar’ of the Mate X you can find the camera, and that is of course from Leica. Once folded, the Mate X is 11mm thick and unfolded it is 5.4mm thick on one side.
So you can operate the Mate X with one hand when folded, but also use it as a tablet when it unfolded. So you can easily watch YouTube videos or movies on the Mate X as a tablet, or call your friends when the Mate X is collapsed. Though I think that watching movies won’t be much enjoyable considering the aspect ratio of the screen.
Huawei Mate X specifications
The Mate X is powered by a 7 nano-meter Kirin 980, the same processor as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and also the Honor View 20 and also features 5G functionality. Huawei uses its new Balong 5000 5G modem for this. This modem can achieve download speeds of 4.6 gigabits per second (gbps) or 6.5 gbps respectively. That is ten times the current 4G LTE limits. The existing Huawei Mate 20 X will also get the upgrade to 5G, that’s what Huawei has promised.
Furthermore, there is a 4500 mAh battery and 55W fast charging technology that charges the Mate X 85% in 30 minutes, quite impressive.
Huawei Mate X availability
The Huawei Mate X with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB storage is available in Blue color for 2299 euros from mid 2019. More colors are on the way. There is also an official case for the Mate X available that protects the device.
