Huawei has officially presented the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. All details are now known and we have put all the details for you in a row! The biggest highlight of these phones is the camera. In the P20 Pro’s case, the megapixels do make a difference. The camera results are stunning leaving phones like Google Pixel and iPhone X in the dust.
The Huawei P20 has a 5.8-inch Fullview LCD display with a full HD+ resolution. There is a notch at the top of the screen so that the screen can go up as far as possible. The notch is not as big as the one on the iPhone X but it’s there and I don’t like. Luckily there is an option built-in to hide the notch.
The device is powered by the Kirin 970 chipset, which is also included in the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. This is supplemented with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage memory. The fingerprint scanner is placed at the front below the display which I don’t like. They should have moved it to the back and removed that chin altogether.
The cameras are the biggest highlights in this series and the P20 has a total of three (including the front camera). Once again, the cameras were made in collaboration with Leica. There are two Leica cameras at the back, one of 12 megapixels (f/1.8) and one of 20 megapixels (f/1.6). The front-camera is 24MP one with an aperture of f/2.0. The cameras use artificial intelligence, a technique built into the Kirin 970 chipset, and provides better photos in low light, sharper images when zooming in and better clarity. The image stabilization is also processed by AI.
The Huawei P20 is equipped with Android 8.1 Oreo and EMUI 8.1. The battery capacity is 3.400mAh and lasts longer thanks to artificial intelligence. Charging is done via USB C and there is support for Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC. There is no headphone jack available which is sad.
Huawei P20 Pro
The Huawei P20 Pro has a 6.1-inch Fullview OLED display with a full-HD+ resolution (2240×1080 pixels) that is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and has a notch at the top. The P20 Pro is also powered by HiSilicon Kirin 970 octa-core chipset, which was launched last year and is also available in the Honor View 10 and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. For some heavy multitasking, there is 6GB of memory and the internal storage is 128GB. The fingerprint scanner is located at the bottom.
The Leica cameras on this device are the part that Huawei puts the focus on. P20 Pro has a triple camera system of 40, 20 and 8 megapixels available at the back of the phone. The self-camera at the front has 24 megapixels (f/2.0). The camera capabilities are improved by artificial intelligence. In low light good and sharp images can be captured and it is possible to zoom five times hybrid without loss of detail. The first 20-megapixel sensor is a f/1.6 monochrome. The second 40-megapixel sensor (f/1.8) has “Light Fusion” which ensures even sharper pictures. The 8-megapixel camera (f/2.4) is the telephoto lens which is optically stabilized.
In the video category, there is the super-slow-motion function. Capturing slow motion video is done at 960 frames per second and that is the same number of fps as the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, the Xperia XZ2, and the Samsung Galaxy S9. The Xperia XZ2 records the slow-motion video in 1080p, whereas the Galaxy S9 and P20 do that with a resolution of 720p.
The P20 Pro runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1 and supports Bluetooth 4.2, Cat 18 modems, NFC, wifi AC. The battery capacity is 4,000mAh and can be charged via USB C. Here too, artificial intelligence comes into play. By means of this technique, the energy consumption is optimized so that with average consumption you can use the device for two days. In addition, the battery is charged up to 58% within half an hour. There is also no headphone jack here. Furthermore, the device is dust and water resistant with IP67 certification. The P20 comes with only IP53 certification which means the phone is protected from dust ingress but submersion in water.
