While we might not the flagship LG phone, the LG G7 at this year’s MWC, LG will unveil two mid-range phones at MWC 2018. In 2017, the company presented LG K10 (2017) at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. During this year’s CES, there were no new mid-rangers from this manufacturer. Why? LG is not trying to hit this US dollar price with this price range. However, it will be happy to show them to Europeans at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

At MWC 2018, LG intends to bring two new smartphones: yes, successors to last year’s  K10 and K8 models.

LG K10 (2018)

LG proudly reports that the K10 (2018) model will come with significantly improved cameras. Thanks to the 13MP main camera with phase detection and improved noise reduction, the pictures are going to go even better than before. This is said to be the same camera used in the LG G6. It is not known which one because G6 had two cameras at the back. It can’t be the wide-angle one.

In addition, the new K10 is supposed to have something that LG calls “Intelligent Rear Key”, which is simply a fingerprint reader with enhanced features such as an integrated power button, camera shutter release or a quick screenshot. At the front of this year’s K10, there is an 8-megapixel camera that supports background blur mode.

These smartphones will appear in various markets in three versions: “usual”, “Plus” and “Alpha”. The key difference between them is the amount of memory, but also – interestingly the cameras used.

Breif Specifications of LG K10 (2018):

  • 1.5 GHz octa-core processor,
  • 5.3 inches HD screen (1280 x 720 pixels, 277 PPI),
  • 3 GB RAM (K10 Plus) or 2 GB RAM (K10 and K10 Alpha),
  • 32 GB ROM (K10 Plus) or 16 GB ROM (K10 and K10 Alpha),
  • microSD card slot (up to 2 TB),
  • rear camera 13 Mpix (K10 Plus and K10) or 8 megapixels (K10 Alpha),
  • front camera 8 Mpix or 5 megapixels (wide angle, but only in K10 Plus and K10),
  • 3000 mAh battery,
  • Android 7.1.2 Nougat,
  • LTE connectivity,
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 b, g, n),
  • Bluetooth 4.2,
  • NFC
  • USB 2.0
  • fingerprint reader,
  • FM radio
  • dimensions: 148.7 x 75.3 x 8.68 mm,
  • weight: 162 g,
  • colors: blue / gold (K10 Plus), black / blue / gold (K10), black / gold (K10 Alpha).

It can not be said that LG will conquer this year’s MWC with such smartphones not even with the powerful version K10 Plus but they sure might show their presence. Sadly, If this is what the LG’s mid-rangers look like, it is quite a dangerous situation for the Korean tech giant because these phones are almost touching the border of budget smartphones. Mid-range in 2018 has little to do with HD screens, 1.5 GHz processors and 16 GB of internal memory.

LG K8 (2018)

In this light, K8 (2018) already appears as a typical representative of the low-end. It will come with a 5-inch HD screen with an 8MP main camera and 5MP camera at the front. The phone will be powered by a 1.3GHz Quad-Core processor along with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. There will be a 2500 mAh replaceable battery and the phone will run Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box which is quite a letdown.

LG K8 (2018) and its specification:

  • quad-core 1.3 GHz processor,
  • screen size 5 inches, HD (1280 x 720 pixels, 294 ppi),
  • 2 GB RAM,
  • 16 GB ROM,
  • microSD card slot (up to 32 GB),
  • main camera 8 Mpix,
  • front camera 5 Mpix,
  • 2500 mAh battery (replaceable),
  • Android 7.1.2 Nougat,
  • LTE connectivity,
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 b, g, n),
  • Bluetooth 4.2,
  • USB 2.0,
  • dimensions: 146.3 x 73.2 x 8.2 mm,
  • weight: 152 g,
  • colors: black, blue, gold.

LG’s booth at the Mobile World Congress will be of interest for a different reason than the premiere of smartphones from the Mid-range. We have to see the LG K30 version enriched with a smart assistant. Still, LG’s MWC event will not be that exciting because of the lack of the LG G7. We hope they are taking their time preparing a great phone in form of LG G7.
