The biggest trend in the smartphone industry in 2017 was the full-screen bezel-less phones. Though it all started last year with the introduction of Xiaomi Mi Mix, it became a trend in 2017. Although Xiaomi pushed the industry to minimize the bezels, Samsung and LG introduced the 18:9 aspect ratio.
The first design feature makes the phones compact while having a larger display, the 18:9 aspect ration makes the phones narrower hence easy to hold.
The decrease in bezels also affected another feature in some phones. It pushed Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OnePlus and LG to move the fingerprint sensors at the back of the phone.
Manufacturers like Apple and Samsung also tried to embed the fingerprint sensors under the display but failed to do so in time. As a result, they have to resort to other measures. Samsung pushed the fingerprint scanner at the back while Apple has to release the iPhone X with a Facial recognition technology.
Xiaomi Will Release Mi 7 With Facial Recognition
Finally, we may see some phones released with a fingerprint scanner embedded under the display. Earlier this month, Synaptics announced that the mass production of fingerprints under the screen. Chinese company Vivo will be the first to introduce a phone with a fingerprint under the display.
According to an industry analyst @MochaRQ, Huawei will be the second company to launch a phone with fingerprint reader under the display. Xiaomi, on the other hand, has refused to adopt the technology just yet, as it has decided to follow the Apple focusing on the 3D facial recognition technology.
If they polished the Facial recognition technology before the launch of Mi 7, there is a good chance that Xiaomi Mi 7 will come with a facial recognition software. While facial recognition sounds cool, it is not the most secure security measure. Even if Xiaomi wants to go with the facial recognition, they should let go of the fingerprint reader.
