Sharp presented another smartphone from the Android One series in Japan. This time it is a Sharp S3 model. Its specifications are quite average, although it is worth noting, in addition to a “clean” version of the android, the phone is water and dust resistant.
On the other hand, the latter should not be a special surprise for us, because many smartphones sold in Japan have a dust-tight and watertight casing. I do not know what this implies, but apparently, it is a very important issue for Japanese customers. Sony has introduced a special version of the Xperia X Compact that meets the requirements of the IP68 standard.
As I mentioned, the specifications of the Sharp S3 are average and nothing special except for the water resistance. The smartphone has an IGZO display with a diagonal of 5 inches, 16: 9 aspect ratio and Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels, 441 PPI ).
Under the hood, there is an octa-core (4x ARM Cortex-A53 1.4 GHz + 4x ARM Cortex-A53 1.1 GHz; 28 nm) Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with Adreno 505 graphics chip, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB built-in memory with the possibility of expanding using a microSD card with a maximum capacity of 256 GB.
In addition, the Sharp S3 also offers a single main camera with a resolution of 13.1 MP on the back and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. We have communication modules 4.2 Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, and the connectors USB Type C. Interestingly, the smartphone has neither NFC nor a fingerprint reader. The device runs a stock version of Android 8.0 Oreo and derives energy from a non-replaceable battery with a capacity of 2700 mAh. The phone has dimensions of 144x71x8.5 mm and weighs 143 grams.
Sharp S3 will be available only in Japan, via Y! Mobile. Its price was set at 32400 yen, ie the equivalent of US $300. Looking from our perspective, this is not a particularly interesting offer, but I do not know exactly the specifications of the Japanese market, so it is difficult to judge whether this smartphone has a good chance to sell there or not.
