Russian twins Demand 20 Million Rubbles From Apple As iPhone X Cannot Tell Them Apart

The twin brothers from Vladimir demanded compensation from the Russian office of Apple in the amount of 20 million rubles for the fact that the Face ID recognition system on the iPhone X cannot distinguish them. Representatives of users told TASS.

According to the twins, the vulnerability of Face ID violates the protection of their personal data, since the smartphone recognizes both brothers as one and can disclose all information to another person. Since information about this is missing in the instructions for the iPhone X and when buying a smartphone, the brothers were not warned, they have asked Apple to refine the Face ID, and as a “moral damage” pay them 20 million rubles (~ $356600).

In its iOS security guide, Apple hints that the iPhone X can be confused by twins, albeit not in an open form:

The probability that a random person in the population could look at your iPhone X and unlock it using Face ID is approximately 1 in 1,000,000 (versus 1 in 50,000 for Touch ID). For additional protection, both Touch ID and Face ID allow only five unsuccessful match attempts before a passcode is required to obtain access to your device. With Face ID, the probability of a false match is different for twins and siblings that look like you as well as among children under the age of 13, because their distinct facial features may not have fully developed.

Russian twins are not satisfied with the lack of information about this in the instructions for the iPhone X, and if Apple does not satisfy the claim, the brothers are ready to go to court. This is not the first case that an iPhone X has been fooled by twins. There have been several videos put on Youtube showing how twins can fool the iPhone. A couple of months ago, Apple had to replace iPhone X of a Chinese lady because her coworker could unlock the iPhone X using her own faceEarlier, Russian users filed ten lawsuits against Apple, accusing the company of slowing down older iPhone models
