Tencent Games held a keynote event at GDC 2019 in San Francisco where it presented its Common R&D and Operation System (CROS). The Chinese gaming giant claimed that its system helped over 200 popular mobile games find success.
The Keynote used the success of PUBG Mobile as a case study. They explained how they used CROS to successfully launch and maintain PUBG mobile as one of the most successful mobile game title on both Android & iOS.
- PUBG Mobile has a huge player base of over 30 million daily active users. Providing a smooth lag free gaming experience for such a huge network of player is a pretty difficult job. Tencent did a great job providing a lag-free experience for such a huge number of players using its INO (Intelligent Network Optimization ) Service tailored specifically for real-time multiplayer mobile games.
INO makes this possible using a Dual Channel Solution. This helps transfer the game data in the multi-link internal network transmission. As a result, users enjoy a smooth lag-free experience. This comes handy specifically in eSports tournaments where every millisecond counts.
- PUBG Mobile has a huge number of active players from around the world. The G6 (Game R&D Solutions) makes sure that players from every part of the world can match against each other seamlessly. G6 technology also provides high-quality in-game voice chat service from GVoice. At least I can testify to that and every PUBG Mobile user will. The voice quality is fantastic.
- Gunther Gong – Senior Product Manager of WeTest explained how WeTest uses AI to reduce testing time and human labor. He claimed that using WeTest we reduced 90% of test time for PUBG Mobile.
- Cheating is a big problem in online multiplayer gaming. The Keynote explained how Tencent eliminates cheating using its MTP security system. Tencent Games claims that the MTP has the largest number of anti-cheat tools available in a single anti-cheat tool. Again, as a PUBG Mobile player, I can testify to the prowess their anti-cheat mechanism. I haven’t noticed any cheating in PUBG till now and I play it a lot.
Tencent Games is ready to share their technical power and R&D with other game developers for the betterment of the competitive multiplayer gaming. By bringing PUBG to mobile Tencent has helped mobile eSports go mainstream. With CROS they want to take it to the next level allowing other developers to make use of their revolutionary technology.
