9. Bayonetta 2
In anticipation of advertised Bayonetta 3 (maybe this year too?), We finally get a new version of Bayonetta 2 masterpiece. When it started, this title was exclusive to Wii U, and because that that console did not see much success, it was sadly overlooked. With the Switch launch, there will be a change in that matter.
8. Mario Tennis: Aces
Mario has tested most sports over the years, and tennis belongs to its most successful side project. Mario Tennis: Aces seem to offer the same kind of easy-to-understand interpretation of the sport as previously attempted, but add a little more content. And it’s welcome. Mario Tennis Ultra Smash to Wii U flopped because of the lack of things to do.
Mario’s prehistoric friend Yoshi saw today’s light in classical Super Mario World. Since then, the lizard has participated in a variety of games, in several of which it have played the lead role. There is no info on the release date but we will actually be surprised if it’s not released this year. The trailer we have seen so far shows up a lot and looks really good.
6. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
Actually, 2017 was a real peak year, and although Wolfenstein 2 may not belong to the best titles in the genre, it was very entertaining and the story was so crazy that we had difficulty understanding what really happened. How great is the port of this visually beautiful title to Switch remains to be seen, but given that Bethesda managed well with Doom, hopes are high.
5. Hollow Knight
The Metroidvania genre has gained a boost in recent years, with a number of really high-quality titles. Hollow Knight was launched on PC last year, combining a big world full of secrets with a bit-wise cloudy challenge. At the beginning of the year, it is supposed to be released to Switch.
4. Kirby Star Allies
In addition to Mario, Kirby must be the Nintendo character that has featured in most titles. The Pink Ball’s Switch debut seems to be in the same style as the predecessors – that is, colorful and super cute.
3. Dark Souls Remastered
The fact that the very first Dark Souls would get a new version was possibly the worst kept secret for a long time, but nonetheless positive. The game is under development by ‘From Software’ Studio which developed the original game but most of the development is the hands of a new team. The story is begining from what eventually ended in Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. The new version should, among other things, offer enhanced opportunities to play more at the same time, and of course better graphics.
2. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
No, the best platform game for Wii U did not have Mario in the lead. Instead, Donkey Kong was running the show, right through the brilliant Tropical Freeze. Here, most of the predecessor’s problems were gone, above all, the developer Retro Studios had eliminated the extremely annoying motion control, and focused on a much more playful band design. The Switch version appears to be basically the same game, except that Funky Kong is now a playable character.
1. Metroid Prime 4
We should perhaps just hope for it, because there is a great risk that Metroid Prime 4 will not be released this year – Nintendo has nevertheless only shown the log so far. On the other hand, Nintendo does not have many big titles advertised, and you probably need a AAA game to attract the hardcore fans this winter? Well, Metroid Prime 4 will probably not be released until next year but we can always hope.
