If you thought the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X are out of this world, well, have a look at the Mi Mix Alpha. The newly announced Xioami Concept phone comes with the whole screen surrounded by the display and packs 108MP camera.
Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha
Xiaomi has previously surprised the smartphone world by launching the Xiaomi Mi Mix starting the trend of the bezel-less phones. Well, Xiaomi has done it again by announcing another crazy phone with a completely new form factor.
Xiaomi claims the phone to have a 180 percent screen-to-body ratio because the panel covers the phone almost completely. There is only a small strip on the back where the camera module can be found. Xiaomi calls the screen of the Mi Mix Alpha a 360 surround display.
Xiaomi places the status icons, such as the battery indicator, WiFi signal on the sides of the curved screen. The sides are also home to the touch buttons of the phone that replace physical volume buttons and the power button. They equipped with a motor for haptic feedback. Xiaomi claims to use artificial intelligence to determine when a side touch is unintended, and then the phone does not respond to unintended side touches. Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the technical details about the screen panel.
Gigantic 108 MP Camera
The Chinese brand is the first to use a 108 MP camera from Samsung. It is the ISOCELL Bright HMX. Xiaomi uses pixel-binning technology that combines the small pixels of the camera to capture more light. The sensor size of 1/1.33″ is also remarkable the largest camera sensor ever on a smartphone after the Nokia 808 PureView.
Just like Nubia Z20, Xiaomi has removed the selfie camera altogether because you only have to turn your phone to use the 108 MP main camera as a selfie camera. In addition to that main lens, Xiaomi also has a 20 MP camera with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens with a 12 MP sensor that takes photos with 2x optical zoom.
The phone is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855+ processor, which is the improved version of the Snapdragon 855. The Mi Mix Alpha also has a generous 12 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage. The 40-watt fast charger helps charge the 4050mAh battery within an hour. The phone also sports a 5G modem but we don’t know which type of 5G modem this is.
The very first Xiaomi Mi Mix phone was a concept phone, but the phones that followed, including last year ‘s Mi Mix 3, were for sale to consumers. This time Xiaomi is again presenting a concept device with the Mi Mix Alpha that will not appear in stores. The technology used here by the Chinese company is expected to be reflected in other devices of the brand later. According to Xiaomi, the Mi Mi Alpha converted would cost 2547 euros.
Although we are concerned about unwanted touches on the sides of the screen, the high cost, the durability of the surround screen panel and the battery life with the large screen in combination with the relatively small battery, the Mi Mix Alpha looks fantastic. All those practical concerns are no problem for a concept phone, and we look forward to seeing what solutions Xiaomi will come up with to put its ideas into practice.
